An endoscopic quality improvement program improves detection of colorectal adenomas
Adenoma detection rate (ADR) is a key measure of quality in colonoscopy. Low ADRs are associated with the development of interval cancer after "negative" colonoscopies. We hypothesized that an endoscopist training program would increase ADR
Randomized controlled trial of self-directed versus in-classroom teaching of narrow-band imaging for diagnosis of Barrett's esophagus-associated neoplasia
The study was to compare the accuracy of diagnosing Barrett's esophagus (BE)-associated neoplasia by trainees with no prior NBI experience. There was no difference in accuracy between the in-classroom and self-directed groups. No significant difference in overall accuracy or accuracy with high-confidence predictions between the 2 study sites.
Appropriate time for selective biliary cannulation by trainees during ERCP--a randomized trial
The appropriate time for attempted cannulation by trainees remains unclear. Success rates were 43.8%, 75.0%, and 71.8% in the 5-, 10-, and 15 -minute groups, respectively. No significant difference in the overall success rates in cannulation between the three groups.
Video review program enhances resident training in laparoscopic inguinal hernia: a randomized blinded controlled trial
Video review with a coach proved to be beneficial for residents when learning laparoscopic inguinal hernia repairs. Residents significantly improved in creating a working space, hernia sac reduction, mesh placement, knowledge of the procedure, and overall competence
Azithromycin and metronidazole versus metronidazole-based therapy for the induction of remission in mild to moderate paediatric Crohn's disease : a randomised controlled trial
Azithromycin-based therapy can improve response and induce remission compared with metronidazole alone. Children 5-18 years with 10 <Pediatric Crohn's Disease Activity Index
Efficacy of Ramucirumab Versus Sorafenib as Subsequent Treatment for Hepatocellular Carcinoma
The study examined the therapeutic efficacy of ramucirumab compared with that of sorafenib as subsequent systemic therapy for patients with HCC. The PFS was significantly longer in the ramucirumab group than in the sorafenib group. There were no significant differences in the objective response rates or the disease control rates.
The effects of acute aerobic exercise on the acquisition and retention of laparoscopic skills
Study was to determine whether an episode of aerobic exercise improves laparoscopic skills. Participants ran on a treadmill for 20 min at 60% of their VO2 max.
Pancreatic enzyme supplementation improves the incretin hormone response and attenuates postprandial glycemia in adolescents with cystic fibrosis: a randomized crossover trial
Pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT) reduced postprandial hyperglycemia and slowed gastric emptying in CF subjects. It also normalized GLP-1 and GIP secretion. PERT did not affect insulin or plasma blood glucose or insulin levels. The study was a double-blinded, crossover trial.
