Population-based meta-analysis of chloroquine: informing chloroquine pharmacokinetics in COVID-19 patients
Chloroquine has been repurposed to treat coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). To study its exposure-efficacy relationship and provide a basis for a possible dosing regimen optimization. Chloroquine has been repurposed to treat coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The derived population PK model should allow for the assessment of pharmacokinetics-pharmacodynamics (PK-PD) relationships for CQ when given alone or in combination with other agents to treat COVID-19.
Echocardiographic Features of Cardiac Injury Related to COVID-19 and Their Prognostic Value: A Systematic Review
Echocardiographic features of cardiac injury related to the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and their prognostic value are scattered in the different literature. The aim of this study was to investigate the echocardiographic features of cardiac injury related to COVID-19 and their prognostic value. RV dilatation and dysfunction may be the most prominent echocardiographic abnormality in symptomatic patients with COVID-19.
Low-Dose Whole-Lung Irradiation for COVID-19 Pneumonia: Short Course Results
The COVID-19 outbreak is affecting people worldwide. Many infected patients have respiratory involvement that may progress to acute respiratory distress syndrome. The pilot study aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of low-dose whole-lung radiation therapy. 4 of the 5 patients improved on the first day of irradiation. Whole-lung irradiation in a single fraction of 0.5 Gy had encouraging results in oxygen-dependent patients with COVID-19 pneumonia.
Randomized phase III trial in elderly patients comparing LV5FU2 with or without irinotecan for first-line treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer (FFCD 2001-02)
Four arms were randomly assigned to receive 5-FU (5-fluorouracil)-based CT. No significant difference was observed for the median PFS. Adding irinotecan to an infusional 5-fu-based CT did not significantly increase either PFS or OS. The ORR was superior in IRI (P = 0.0003): FU 21.1% versus IRI 41.7%.
Second-line chemotherapy for advanced biliary tract cancer after failure of the gemcitabine-platinum combination: A large multicenter study by the Association des Gastro-Entérologues Oncologues
Few data are available on second-line chemotherapy (CT2) for advanced biliary tract cancer (ABTC) CT2 might provide disease control for selected patients with ABTC after the failure of gemcitabine-platinum, but the prognosis remains poor.
Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) versus endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for resection of large distal non-pedunculated colorectal adenomas (MATILDA-trial): rationale and design of a multicenter randomized clinical trial
Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) is currently the most used technique for the resection of large distal colorectal polyps. We hypothesize that ESD is more time-consuming in the short run, resulting in higher healthcare costs, but is more cost-effective in the long term.
Lanreotide Autogel in the Treatment of Idiopathic Refractory Diarrhea: Results of an Exploratory, Controlled, Before and After, Open-label, Multicenter, Prospective Clinical Trial
Somatostatin analogues have the ability to reduce gastrointestinal secretions and motility. Lanreotide Autogel decreased symptoms and improved quality of life in these patients.
Intravenous cyclosporine for severe attacks of ulcerative colitis: a survey of Canadian gastroenterologists
A single randomized trial evaluated the use of cyclosporine treatment for severe attacks of ulcerative colitis. Over 90% of respondents believe that further clinical trials are needed before the drug is accepted as a standard therapy.
