SARS-CoV-2 re-infection risk in Austria
A key question concerning coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is how effective and long-lasting immunity is in individuals who were previously infected with SARS-CoV-2. We aimed to evaluate the risk of SARS.-Cov-2 re-infections in the general population in Austria.
Molecular diagnosis for the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2: lessons learnt from the Ghana experience
First cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection were recorded in Ghana on March 12, 2020. The highest number of cases were reported in June when the GHS embarked on targeted contact tracing. From February 3 to August 21, the NMIMR processed 283 946 (10%) samples. Test results are now provided within 24 to 48 hours of sample submission enabling more effective response and containment.
Effects of Storage Temperature and Media/Buffer for SARS-CoV-2 Nucleic Acid Detection
Objectives: The increase in the number of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has delayed real-time reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), requiring proper shipping and storage conditions. Study aims to assess how some conditions, such as storage period, temperature, media or buffer, and sample types, affect the results of acute respiratory syndrome.
Development of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has posed significant challenges globally. This review aimed to identify and describe possible vaccines for the prevention of the pandemic. A total of 141 vaccines in development against SARS-CoV-2 were identified. So far, 13 vaccines (9.2%) are under clinical evaluation.
Variability of cycle threshold values in an external quality assessment scheme for detection of the SARS-CoV-2 virus genome by RT-PCR
Results of SARS-CoV-2 specific real-time reverse transcription (RT) are used for initial diagnosis and follow-up of Covid-19 patients and asymptomatic virus carriers. Clinical decision-making and health management policies often are based additionally on cycle threshold ( Ct) values to guide patient care. This study highlights the limitations of interpreting Ct values from the various SARS.-CoV genome detection protocols.
Design and Multicenter Clinical Validation of a 3-Dimensionally Printed Nasopharyngeal Swab for SARS-CoV-2 Testing
3DP swabs have been used to mitigate swab shortages during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Clinical validation for diagnostic accuracy and consistency and patient acceptability is crucial to evaluate the swab's performance.
A Highly Automated Mobile Laboratory for On-site Molecular Diagnostics in the COVID-19 Pandemic
The mobile laboratory was equipped with a 6-axis robot arm for automated oropharyngeal swab specimen collection. The virus in the collected specimen was inactivated rapidly using an infrared heating module
Impact of serological and PCR testing requirements on the selection of COVID-19 convalescent plasma donors
Convalescent plasma is undergoing randomized trials as a potential therapeutic option for COVID-19 infection. Clearance for donation required successful completion of an online questionnaire and an in-person screening visit. After receiving 3093 online questionnaires, 521 individuals presented for in-person screening visits, with 40.1% (n = 209) fully qualifying.
