Learners favour high resolution oesophageal manometry with better diagnostic accuracy over conventional line tracings
High-resolution manometry (HRM) provides a colorful representation of oesophageal motility. Novice and intermediate learners were tested to compare HRM Clouse plots and conventional manometry for accuracy, ease of interpretation, and knowledge retention
Simeprevir and Sofosbuvir (SMV-SOF) for 12 Weeks for the Treatment of Chronic Hepatitis C Genotype 1 Infection: A Real World (Transplant) Hepatology Practice Experience
Combination treatment with SMV and SOF in genotype 1 chronic HCV patients achieved an overall SVR rate of 78% by ITT and 86% by per protocol. The presence of hepatocellular carcinoma was found to be a significant negative predictor of SVR12.
A study comparing an endoscopy nurse and an endoscopy physician in capsule endoscopy interpretation
The study evaluated the efficacy of a nurse in interpreting WCE recordings. The nurse's mean capsule reading time was significantly longer for the nurse compared with the gastroenterologist. The nurse had the lowest sensitivity rates in detecting polyps and angiodysplasia
Efficacy and safety of cinitapride in the treatment of mild to moderate postprandial distress syndrome-predominant functional dyspepsia
Little is known about the clinical efficacy of cinitapride, a 5-HT agonist, in treating functional dyspepsia. The rates of symptom relief after 4 weeks did not differ significantly.
Virtual reality does not meet expectations in a pilot study on multimodal laparoscopic surgery training
Virtual reality training was used in a multimodality training program of basic laparoscopic surgery. Box and POP training received better ratings from the VR group than from the control group.
PillCam colon capsule endoscopy: a prospective, randomized trial comparing two regimens of preparation
CCE represents a new diagnostic, endoscopic technology for colonic exploration. NaP has been recently related to major side effects. Adequate preparation was achieved in 42.5% of the cases. The exclusion of NaP booster resulted in a clinically meaningful reduction of the capsule excretion rate that was only partially compensated by the PEG booster.
Pertinence of a pre-colonoscopy consultation for routine information delivery
Study compared "exposed" (E) and "non exposed" (NE) patients. In E, information about colonoscopy was delivered by a gastroenterologist during a special consultation at least 24 hours before the procedure. The level of information was better in group E, as was satisfaction with medical care.
Measurement of fecal calprotectin improves monitoring and detection of recurrence of Crohn's disease after surgery
Crohn's disease (CD) usually recurs after intestinal resection. Postoperative endoscopic monitoring and tailored treatment can reduce the chance of recurrence. We investigated whether monitoring levels of fecal calprotectin can substitute for endoscopic analysis of the mucosa.
