Circulating Levels of Interleukin-6 and Interleukin-10, But Not Tumor Necrosis Factor-Alpha, as Potential Biomarkers of Severity and Mortality for COVID-19: Systematic Review with Meta-analysis
Cytokine storm is a major pathological feature of acute respiratory distress syndromes. Circulating levels of IL-6 and IL-10 might have great potential as biomarkers for the disease severity and mortality.
What is the evidence for transmission of COVID-19 by children in schools? A living systematic review
Emerging evidence suggests a lower IAR and Sars-Cov-2 positivity rate in students compared to school staff. Future prospective and adequately controlled cohort studies are necessary to confirm this finding.
Systematic review of EEG findings in 617 patients diagnosed with COVID-19
Frontal EEG patterns are reported to be a characteristic finding in COVID-19 encephalopathy. Abnormal EEG abnormalities are common and have implications for disease severity, preexisting neurological conditions including epilepsy, and prolonged EEG monitoring.
Characteristics of pediatric multi-system inflammatory syndrome (PMIS) associated with COVID-19: a meta-analysis and insights into pathogenesis
An outbreak of pediatric multisystem inflammation syndrome (PMIS) was observed in multiple countries recently. 80% of patients suffered persistent fever and 90% appeared gastrointestinal symptoms. IgG antibody against SARS-CoV-2 was positive on 81% of the patients. etiology and pathogenesis of PMIS still remain unclear.
Knowledge, attitudes, and practices against the growing threat of COVID-19 among medical students of Pakistan
Of the 1474 medical students in the study, 576 were males, and 898 were females. Two-thirds of the participants 1057(71.7%) had adequate knowledge, and almost all the students had positive attitudes (1363(92.5%), and good practices 1406(95.4%) to COVID 19. The information acquired by the KAP study may help to devise effective preventive strategies for future events.
Body mass index and outcome in patients with COVID-19: A dose-response meta-analysis
A total of 34,390 patients from 12 studies were included in this meta-analysis. Increased BMI was associated with increased poor outcomes in patients with COVID-19. The curve became steeper with increasing BMI. A pooled analysis of highest BMI versus reference BMI.
Clinical Outcomes and Plasma Concentrations of Baloxavir Marboxil and Favipiravir in COVID-19 Patients: An Exploratory Randomized, Controlled Trial
Favipiravir and baloxavir acid were evaluated for their antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2 before the trial. One reason for the lack of virological effect and clinical benefits may be due to insufficient concentrations of these drugs, authors say.
Transmissibility of COVID-19 depends on the viral load around onset in adult and symptomatic patients
High viral loads around onset may contribute to the secondary transmission of COVID-19. The viral load may help provide a better understanding of why transmission is observed in some instances, but not in others, especially among household contacts.
