Characterization and effectiveness of pay-for-performance in ophthalmology: a systematic review
Research results show that experiences with pay-for-performance approaches in ophthalmology are limited. Identified approaches differ with regard to quality and incentive elements restricting comparability
Neuropsychiatric symptoms associated with cerebral small vessel disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Cerebral small vessel disease is a common cause of vascular dementia. It is often considered clinically silent before dementia or stroke becomes apparent. We aimed to determine whether neuropsychiatric and cognitive symptoms vary according to the burden of the disease burden.
Intraoperative subcortico-cortical evoked potentials of the visual pathway under general anesthesia
Mapping visual pathways during brain surgeries were feasible. Subcortical-cortical evoked potentials were measured in 12 patients for stimulation of the optic radiation, Meyer's loop, or optic nerve. The minimum distances from the stimulation locations were evaluated postoperatively. Stimulation elicited SCEPs when the visual tracts were close (4.5mm) Short latency responses were found in agreement with fast conduction of the visual pathways connecting myelinated fibers.
Abortion experiences and preferences of transgender, nonbinary, and gender-expansive people in the United States
Transgender, nonbinary, and gender-expansive people who were assigned female or intersex at birth have abortions. This study aimed to fill existing evidence gaps on abortion experiences and preferences. If they were to need an abortion today, respondents preferred medication abortion over surgical abortion in a 3:1 ratio. These data contribute substantially to the evidence base on individual experiences of and preferences for abortion care for transgender, nonbinary, and gender-expansive people.
Renovascular hypertension in pediatric patients: update on diagnosis and management
RVH is defined as elevated blood pressure caused by kidney hypoperfusion. Digital subtraction angiography is the gold standard method for the diagnosis of RVH
Sirolimus for treatment of patients with inclusion body myositis: a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, proof-of-concept, phase 2b trial
Inclusion body myositis is most frequent in patients older than 50 years. In this pilot study, we aimed to test the efficacy of sirolimus in patients with the disease. The study was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, proof-of-concept, phase 2b trial. Canker sores were the most frequent side-effect and were mainly mild or moderate in ten patients.
Surgery for malignant pleural mesothelioma after radiotherapy (SMART): final results from a single-centre, phase 2 trial
The SMART protocol consists of a short accelerated course of radiotherapy followed by extrapleural pneumonectomy. Patients received 25 Gy in five daily fractions over 1 week to the entire ipsilateral hemithorax. 47% of patients had 30-day perioperative grade 3–4 events
Assessment of Pediatric Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy Using a New Patient-Reported Outcome Measure: The P-CIN
Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is commonly experienced in children. P-CIN is an electronic measure for assessing CIPN in children who received neurotoxic chemotherapy. For 9 of 14 items, responses ranged from 0 to 4 or 5 for toe numbness and pick up a coin and three of four pain items were 0 to 3.
