Clinical management and mortality among COVID-19 cases in sub-Saharan Africa: A retrospective study from Burkina Faso and simulated case analysis
COVID-19 cases and deaths in sub-Saharan Africa have been significantly lower than those in the Americas, Asia, and Europe. There has been limited information about the demographic and clinical characteristics of deceased cases in the region.
Predictors of laboratory-positive COVID-19 in children and teenagers
Data from 1849 individuals were analyzed. COVID-19 was confirmed in 15.9% of patients. Increasing age, personal history of obesity, and household contact with a case were found to be associated with increased odds of a positive test result.
Adenoma detection by Endocuff-assisted versus standard colonoscopy in an organized screening program: the "ItaVision" randomized controlled trial
The Endocuff Vision device has been shown to increase mucosal exposure, and consequently adenoma detection rate (ADR), during colonoscopy. This nationwide multicenter study assessed possible benefits and harms of using the device in a fecal immunochemical test (FIT)-based screening program.
Intravenous cyclosporine for severe attacks of ulcerative colitis: a survey of Canadian gastroenterologists
A single randomized trial evaluated the use of intravenous cyclosporine treatment for severe attacks of ulcerative colitis. The perceived efficacy and safety of this intervention were measured through a survey of the membership of the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology.
Objective benefit of a 1-day training course in endoscopic hemostasis using the "compactEASIE" endoscopy simulator
The Erlangen Active Simulator for Interventional Endoscopy (EASIE) was introduced in 1997 as a training model for interventional endoscopy. Objective evidence of the benefits of training with this model has not previously been published.
Effect of omeprazole on the outcome of endoscopically treated bleeding peptic ulcers. Randomized double-blind placebo-controlled multicentre study
Hemostasis is highly pH-dependent and severely impaired at low pH. There is no clear evidence that acid-suppressing drugs have beneficial effects in peptic ulcer hemorrhage.
Predicting endoscopic diagnosis in the dyspeptic patient: the value of clinical judgement
Author: To compare the quality of chance-corrected clinical diagnosis in two groups of dyspeptic patients. Design: Structured interview before endoscopy and clinical predictions of endoscopic diagnosis as either malignancy, peptic ulcer, oesophagitis or non-ulcer dyspepsia
A randomized controlled trial of psychotherapy in patients with chronic functional dyspepsia
Psychodynamic-interpersonal (PI) psychotherapy is more efficacious than a psychological control for patients with chronic, intractable functional dyspepsia (FD) Study aimed to determine whether patients with abnormal gastric function respond differently to PI therapy to those with normal gastric function.
