Plants as source of new therapies for endometriosis: a review of preclinical and clinical studies

Given the disadvantages and limitations of current endometriosis therapy, There is a progressive increase in studies focusing on plant-derived agents as a natural treatment option. Natural therapies can be assigned to three categories: (i) herbal extracts, (ii) specific plant-derived bioactive compounds, and (iii) Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) Agents of the first category exert anti-proliferative, anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidant effects.

Persistent organic pollutants and couple fecundability: a systematic review

Despite increasing regulation, exposure to persistent organic pollutants remains a serious public health concern. Pesticides and flame retardants are associated with endocrine-disrupting effects including adverse reproductive outcomes. Evidence was strongest for adverse associations of female exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls with TTP.

Reciprocal control of obesity and anxiety–depressive disorder via a GABA and serotonin neural circuit

High comorbidity between obesity and mental disorders, such as depression and anxiety, often exacerbates metabolic and neurological symptoms. Neurons in the stria terminus regulate mentally associated weight gain. Treatment with zonisamide and granisetron alleviates mental dysfunction.

Scalp involvement in patients referred for patch testing: Retrospective cross-sectional analysis of North American Contact Dermatitis Group data, 1996 to 2016

4.8% of patients (2331/48,753) had scalp identified as 1 of up to 3 affected anatomic sites. Approximately one-third of "scalp-only" individuals had a specific primary diagnosis of allergic contact dermatitis. The top 3 specifically identified allergens were hair dyes, shampoo/conditioners, and consumer items (eg, hair appliances, glasses) 3. p-Phenylenediamine was the most common allergen. Isolated scalp involvement was less likely to be associated with allergic contact dermatitis

Contact dermatitis associated with preservatives: Retrospective analysis of North American Contact Dermatitis Group data, 1994 through 2016

The study looked at patch testing results of preservatives from 1994 through 2016. The most frequent reactions were to methylisothiazolinone 0.2% aqueous and formaldehyde 2% aq. Only one preservative had a significant increase in PPTRs over time.

Role of the Peroxisome Proliferator Activated Receptors in Hypertension

Nuclear receptors represent a large family of ligand-activated transcription factors which sense the physiological environment. We will focus on the PPAR (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor) family of adopted orphan receptors. PPARβ is the isoform with the most compelling evidence as an important regulator of arterial blood pressure.

Hypertension in Low- and Middle-Income Countries

Low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) have been witnessing a significant shift toward raised blood pressure. In LMICs, only 1 in 3 are aware of their hypertension status. The rising burden widens the inequality gap, contributes to massive economic hardships of patients and carers, and increases costs to the health system. Global actions include the HEARTS technical package and the push for universal health care. Lowering blood pressure in LMICs requires urgent global political and scientific
